Over four sessions, certified nutrition specialist Beth Atlas will teach about the role of nutrition and lifestyle on chronic disease, mental health, healthy aging, and longevity. The class will meet on Tuesdays, from April 9 to April 30, 10-11 am, in the Library's Brooks Place Program room.
Uncontrolled inflammation is linked to nearly all chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety, fatigue, arthritis, digestive disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, asthma, and autoimmune disease and cancer. During this presentation you will learn how to recognize if you have underlying inflammation, the causes of inflammation, and how to decrease inflammation in order to improve your overall health.
In addition, current research shows that the gut microbiome plays an important role in a variety of health issues, including digestive health, autoimmune conditions, immune health, anxiety and depressive disorder. A growing body of research suggests that the way we eat may affect our moods. A healthy diet promotes a healthy gut which communicates with the brain.
During this course you will learn about the role of nutrition, good sleep, exercise as well as the importance of blood sugar regulation. You will leave with tips on how to address these issues which will help decrease anxiety, depression and other chronic health issues.
