The United Nations Association of Southwestern Connecticut presents the first Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Memorial Lecture. Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker will discuss how to inspire people to preserve, protect and restore the Earth community. As co-founder of the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology, Dr. Tucker seeks to identify different perspectives among the religions of the world to find comprehensive and collaborative solutions to our global environmental crisis in partnership with scientists and policy makers.
The Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce and The Westport Library delivered a candidate forum focused on three races: state senate and two state representatives districts. The debate featured Toni Boucher and Ceci Maher vying for the state senate in District 26, Jonathan Steinberg and Alma Sarelli for representative of the 136th district, and Nicole Hampton and Dominique Johnson for the 143rd representative district, and was moderated by Matthew Mandell, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce.
Positive Directions, in partnership with the Westport Weston Family YMCA and the Westport Library, hosted a panel discussion about the pressure and anxiety being experienced by our youth. Learn from the experts about what is causing the pressure, how to recognize signs that your child is struggling, strategies for reducing their anxieties, and local resources available to your family.
In this event presented by the Y's Men of Westport/Weston, Y's Men member and former Perkin Elmer engineer Marty Yellin offered an overview of the fascinating and often mindboggling discoveries made by Hubble Space and the James Webb Space telescopes.
On Monday, October 17th at noon hear Dan's conversation with two of Westport's stellar woman, Sharuna Mahesh and Stacie Curran (Pictured below, left to right). Each have been highly active in the community in a myriad of impactful ways and have raised their children in town. Both are strong and active advocate for the educational, recreational, and general living needs for children and adults with disabilities.
Westport honors and supports those in recovery from substance abuse, with special guest with music, a reception and panel discussion with prominent community members.
