BOOKED for the evening is The Westport Library’s signature fundraising event. On this occasion, the Library honors an individual whose work reflects the purpose of the Library: to nurture a love of learning and to enhance our understanding of the world.
On September 12, BOOKED for the evening will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a very special guest of honor: sporting legend and equal rights trailblazer Billie Jean King.

King is one of the greatest players in tennis history, having won an astounding 39 Grand Slam titles, 12 in singles, and finished No. 1 in the world on five occasions. But she is perhaps best known as a champion for equality and fairness — in sport and in society — starting the first women’s
professional tour, fighting for equal prize money, and campaigning for women’s rights and gay rights throughout her remarkable life and career.
King has been recognized with induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, the legendary magazine’s highest honor.
